The Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania is a government agency, which participates in the shaping of national policy in the field of management and use of documents and archives, as well as implements this policy, supports the Chief Archivist of Lithuania in the carrying-out of state administration of the field of documents and archives.

The opening of exhibition „Basilian monks in Lithuania“

The exhibition „Basilian monks in Lithuania” was opened in Lithuanian archival building (Mindaugas st. 8, Vilnius), on November 10th. Exhibition is dedicated to commemorate the 400-year anniversary of the establishment of the Order of St. Basil the great in Lithuania.

The leader of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Chief Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, the Protoarchimandritum of St. Joseph's Basilian Order Genesio Viomar, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi, Pastor of the St. Trinity Greek Rite Catholic Church in Vilnius Vinkentyj Vasyl Pelykh, the director of Department of Cultural Heritage under The Ministry of Culture Diana Varnaite and curator of exhibition Neringa Češkevičiūtė. The Lithuanian minister of Culture Liana Ruokytė-Jonsson, the Chief Archivist of Lithuania Ramojus Kraujelis, politicians, academics and Lithuanian archivists also participated in ceremony.


Basilian monks choir “DEISIS” (choir leader S. Dolnyj) from Lviv- Briukhovych performed during opening ceremony.


Unique documents of 16-20 c. from various fonds of Lithuanian State Historical archives are exhibited in exhibition “Basilian Monks in Lithuania”. Visitors can take a look at rich history of Order of Saint Basil the Great and explore original documents that usually are kept in depositories. Original documents are exhibited in Lithuanian archival building (Mindaugas st. 8, Vilnius) in Education and Exposition hall (4th floor).

 

There are 12 stands for the movable exhibition, which on November 12th was transferred to St. Trinity Church, where the solemn Mass was held for the 400th anniversary of the establishment of Order of St. Basil the Great. Later the movable exhibition will travel to Lithuanian Regional state Archives and other cultural institutions.
