The Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania is a government agency, which participates in the shaping of national policy in the field of management and use of documents and archives, as well as implements this policy, supports the Chief Archivist of Lithuania in the carrying-out of state administration of the field of documents and archives.




Exhibition “Together on the Way to the Independence”


To celebrate Estonian days in Vilnius, exhibition “Together on the Way to the Independence” was opened in Vilnius university library on April 6th. Exhibition was opened by Estonian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador in Lithuania Jana Vanaveski and Vilnius university rector professor Artūras Žukauskas. Greeting speeches were made by general director of Vilnius university library Irena Krivienė and the Chief archivist of Lithuania dr. Ramojus Kraujelis.

Exhibition is made of documents from Lithaunian and Estonian archives. Most of documents depicts bilateral diplomatic, economic and cultural relations in 1919-1940. period. Restoration of relations between Lithaunia and Estonia in 1990-1992 also depicted in exhibition.

First exhibition concerning Lithuanian-Estonian relations was created in 2005. Estonian national archives cooperating with Lithuanian central state archives expanded and renewed exhibition in 2016. “Together on the Way to the Independence” has already been exhibited in Tallinn and Tartu.

Exhibition “Together on the Way to the Independence” is available for visiting in gallery of Vilnius university library until April 28 th.
