Exposition of Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania (Act of February the 16th)

The Act of February the 16th will be presented to the public in the House of Signatories, the branch of National Museum of Lithuania, on January 21st at 2 p.m. The Act of February the 16th was discovered by professor Liudas Mažylis in the Political Archive of German Federal Foreign Office.

The document will be exhibited in the very same room where it was signed. The central Committee of Lithuanian society to support war victims was working here at the time when The Act of February the 16th was signed. This society not only was one of the organizations legally working and representing the nation during the WWI, but also gathering of most active Lithuanian politicians.

The Act of February the 16th, lent the Political Archive of German Federal Foreign Office to Lithuania, will be held on display in House of Signatories until November 15th, 2018. Visitors will also be able to see the renewed exposition “On the way to independent Lithuanian state 1963-1918”.

The House of Signatories is opened from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, except Mondays. Visiting the House of Signatories is free of charge.

Document and its display are insured by “Lietuvos draudimas”.

A brief note on the use of documents from the Political Archive of German Federal Foreign Office

Regulations of using these documents were set in German embassy note of June 6th, 2017: users may freely access documents in Lithuanian Archives reading rooms and use it for academic research. However, public promotion (including promotion on the internet) is allowed only with permission of Federal Foreign Office Political Archive of Germany. All requests concerning promotion of these documents must be sent through the ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

Documents under display can be photographed (without flash) or recorded to make TV reports for the press and public, if those actions do no harm to the documents. Photos and TV reports made during the display are allowed to be published further for the press and public by using suitable means (first and foremost, but not limited to, press, TV, digital and social media) after the display. Also it is allowed to use this material for information and documentation purposes.

 

Documents also photos and video records of these documents can be displayed in exhibitions with clearly visible reference: “The property of the Political Archive of German Federal Foreign Office no. R 21717”. Reproductions (facsimiles) of Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania (Act of February the 16th) or its photos and records can be displayed in exhibitions with clearly visible reference: “Original document is preserved and belongs to the Political Archive of German Federal Foreign Office”. These liabilities are binding to third persons, who are allowed to publish, duplicate and distribute photos and video records of Act of Reinstating Independence of Lithuania (Act of February the 16th) and its reproductions (facsimiles).
